Summary:

The main features of the sandy and stony plains bird communities of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura (Canary Islands) are analysed. Results are exposed in table I. The Lesser Short-toed Lark (C. rufescens) prefers the sandy habitats in Lanzarote and the stony ones in Fuerteventura. The Spectacled Warbler (S. conspicillata) and the Trumpeter Finch (B. githaginea) select the sandy and stone ones, respectivelly, in both islands. Finally, these preferences in habitat, the stability and the possible biogeographic origin of these communities are discussed.
