Santiago Merino dedicates an emotional obituary to his colleague Andrés Barbosa. Both researchers worked together at the Department of Evolutionary Ecology of the National Museum of Natural Sciences (MNCN-CSIC), Madrid, Spain. Andrés Barbosa was professionally dedicated to ornithological research, focusing in recent years on penguins; he was assistant editor of Ardeola until 2011 and member of the Scientific Committee of SEO/BirdLife, among other relevant positions in the scientific field.
