Summary:

The study systematically reviews two decades of studies documenting AIV detection in Iberian birds. Results show that research has focused mainly on waterfowl and poultry, while passerines, raptors, and exotic species remain largely unsampled. Geographic and habitat biases are evident, with extensive regions and ecological contexts unrepresented, and methodological inconsistencies across studies hinder prevalence estimates. Expanding taxonomic and geographic coverage and integrating molecular and serological tools within a One Health framework are urgent priorities to anticipate risks and strengthen preparedness
